We’ll run a section of the Highwood River from the Ings Creek to the Longview. Join us for a fun day on the river.
It’s a Class 2+ run. While this run does not have class 3 rapids, it is intended for paddlers who already have solid class 2 skills, maybe already completed the main Kananaskis section, or are looking to transition into class 3.
Meet at the Longview Esso gas station at 11:00am, once everyone has arrived and is ready, we will shuttle cars to the river.

Requirements:
-
- It’s a Class 2+ run, and basic maneuvers are required to avoid hazards. You should already have solid class 2 experience, including multiple trips in that or more challenging river environments (eg. lower elbow 2+, not just Harvie Passage). You must be able to correctly perform proper eddy turns and ferries on Class 2 rapids to participate. If you are unsure about your skills, please message us so we can discuss further before the trip.
- There is a very steep path leading to the river with some exposure. You may need to use your hands for stability while descending. Boats will be lowered using ropes.
- The run is about 12km and paddling only could take around 4h. Take water and snacks with you.
- You must be an active 2025 member of Paddle Junkies to sign up
- Bring your own gear – your boat with two functional flotation bags, PFD, helmet, paddle, spray skirt, throwbag.
